Data Transmission : There is a transfer of data from one computer device to other. There are two ways this can go down: via wiring, or wirelessly. Every time you send a message or an email, your message has to pass through lots of devices such as routers, switches and modems. This is a vital function as these devices facilitate the data transfer at high speeds and in an optimal manner. If you imagine that routers are the traffic directors who keeps track of which data is going where and making sure it does not get lost along the way.
We can send data from one place to another in many ways. One such way is denoted as Simplex mode. This makes it a unidirectional data flow. That is to say, the data can only flow from sender to receiver and not in the opposite direction. The second method is known as Half-duplex mode. In this mode, data can be sent / received bi-directionally, but only uni-directional way at a time. It is a bit like a two-lane road, where traffic can go in both directions, but only one car can pass at the same time. The third option is Full-duplex mode. This is the most advanced type, in that data can be transmitted in both directions simultaneously. Today, the most frequently encountered way of transmitting data is full-duplex mode, where communication can occur simultaneously in both directions—an approach that improves speed and efficiency.
Data transmission is not without problems, and there are many reasons that may impact the data being sent or received. Bandwidth is an important one of them. Bandwidth is the volume of information that can be transmitted through network connection in a given time period. Having large bandwidth, as the ability to send data quickly means faster communication. Latency is another main driver. Latency is the time lag that occurs when you send some data. There can be a lot of causes for it, like how far away the data needs to travel to or what are the network conditions. If you were to send a letter far away, it would take longer than if you were sending one next door! Lastly, one more thing to account for is noise. Noise is any unwanted disturbance that may disrupt the quality of data transmission. This interference comes from the electromagnetic waves or even physical damage on data carrying cables.
Responses over the years – As technology improved how data were transmitted, so too did the processes by which an organization responded to those messages. Previously, data was primarily transmitted over wires. This means in order to transmit data, it had to be over a hard wire connection. And now, we can even transmit data without wires! In wireless connection, radio signals are used to transmit data messages between one device and another. This encompasses data transmission via mobile devices, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth and even satellites. Then came the internet and since then everything has changed again. Now wake up to the reality, where everyone around the globe can speak with each other directly through video calls, messages and emails. This also makes it affordable for friends and families to connect regardless of distance!
Ensure delivery is highly crucial in the present time and age. It makes sure that different devices, networks and people communicate with each other in a good way. When the data transmission is unreliable, the communication fails here and there, without serious efforts to fix it information can get lost or corrupted. The implications can be dire and go beyond healthcare to include finance, emergency services, etc. As an example, if a physician is intentionally trying to send information about a patient to a hospital, but the data packets get lost on the way there, it very well might lead to improper treatment.
